U.S.S. Panamint Banner Burial - by Joe Brusca
This is a story about a banner.It has been in my possession for
many years. Read the story behind it and it explains what happened to
it. It was buried in the Pacific ocean as requested by a Panamint crew
member Robert Chisnell who became a professor in FL. At great expense
he had the banner made and was displayed at all our reunions. He also
sent a book to everyone about the story and travels of the USS Panamint
AGC13 known as the lucky 13. He requested when there would be no more
reunions and only a few men left standing it be buried in
the Pacific.
That happened this year when my son Joe who was on the destroyer Frank
E Evans the only war ship sunk during the Viet Nam war..Thank God he
had been discharged not too long before that. On a trip to Oregon he
took the banner with him and rented a boat, and near a Buoy the banner
was buried. Here are the pictures of the event.
